The event admission is free to the public starting at Noon, and benefits Pints for Prostates, a grassroots campaign designed to raise awareness among men about prostate cancer and the importance of early detection in fighting the disease. Additionally, there is a $40 Jazz Brunch starting at 10am with live music by the Jim Cullum Jazz Band and food provided by Smoke Shack serving Kiolbassa Sausage and bacon. 

 

The growing annual celebration of fathers will include prostate, testosterone and lipid screenings for men by The Urology Place. Starting at Noon, there will be a variety of fun activities for the whole family – a washers tournament, games, raffle, silent auction, So. Tex BBQ, food trucks and more. Leashed pets are also invited, and Tailgate Brigade will have a display of new Toyota trucks.

 

“We created this event to call attention to prostate cancer and to tell all the dads that we want you to get screened and, if necessary, treated,” said Eugene Simor, President of Alamo Beer Company and a prostate cancer survivor. “FatherFest is meant to be a lot of fun but also to encourage men to take prostate cancer seriously.”

 

Pints for Prostates was founded in 2008 after beer journalist Rick Lyke was diagnosed at 47-years-old and successfully treated for prostate cancer. Lyke will be on hand at FatherFest this year.

 

“Prostate cancer is the second-most common cancer among American men,” said Dr. Naveen Kella of The Urology Place, which will provide PSA, testosterone and lipid screenings at FatherFest. “But it also is very treatable and survivable when detected early. Father’s Day is a great time to have a conversation with dad and tell him he needs to get screened.”
